The Doug Benson Dam Dam Paddle Challenge is a cancer fundraising event, held on Saturday October 8 2016 from 8am - 6pm, in honor of our Lake Gaston family member Doug Benson, who passed away from lung cancer.
Participants pulled out their stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes to experience the true Lake Gaston endurance challenge of paddling the entire length of the lake or, NEW for this year, Half the length of the lake.
Winds were chilling making conditions frigid as well as grueling. Fortunately the winds were at the backs of the paddlers which helped somewhat. When it's in your face it makes it much more of a challenge. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and most importantly funds were raised for a good cause. Andrew Daniel was the first to complete the Challenge this year, it took him 7 hours. Wow!
All proceeds go to support the American Cancer Society. Visit the official website for this event where you can still donate through the end of December 2016. Donation information for our 2016 event is shown below. AF Wake would like to thank all 2015 participants and all donors as well.
